Tariffs, Quotas and Non-Tariff Trade Barriers - Research Paper Example This paper illustrates that a tax levied by a government against certain imports, designed to raise revenue or to protect domestic firms. Although tariffs may be imposed on both imported and exported goods usually they are imposed on imported goods. Different types of tariffs are ad valorem tariff, specific tariff, revenue tariff, prohibitive tariff, a protective tariff, environmental tariff and retaliatory tariff. Tariffs restrict international trade as due to their imposition, exporters have to bear an additional cost, to which either they have to absorb which increases their approaching costs to the market and reduces their profits and causes a reduction in imports, or they have to raise their selling prices to cover the new expenses, which causes decrease in demand and resultantly imports. â€Å"Means of restricting the number of imports through import licenses, either of a certain item or from a certain country.† Its different types are a binding quota, non-binding quota, absolute quotas and tariff-rate quotas. Import quotas also restrict international trade as they limit imports to a specified level with certainty, replace market mechanism and according to Solusource, â€Å"If you are importing or exporting goods that are subject to a quota, you may have to compete with other buyers or suppliers that are attempting to negotiate similar deals† (â€Å"Identifying†). These are nonmonetary barriers to restrict imports. These are also called NTBs its common examples are embargoes, anti-dumping measures, biases against foreign company’s bids and countervailing duties etc. Although these are called nontariff trade barriers when they are implied they affect the international trade in about same way in which tariffs affect. Free trade environment leads closer to market perfection as it results in the better allocation and optimum utilization of resources, offers better and greater choices to customers and leads towards economic developm ent and customer satisfaction.

Parents and relatives, brothers and sisters, faculty and administration, you all have come here tonight to see the 2006 Johnson High School graduating class. Thank you for your attendance. You have been there for us and will be there for us in the future. Thank you. Fellow classmates, we have arrived! The class of 2006 is graduating. We started as little freshmen and have grown into the rulers of Johnson High as seniors. We have endured so much. There were the peaks and valleys, the ups and the downs, but the classes continued and we kept attending. There was pain, agony, heartbreak, new district standards, tragedy, defeat and failure. These have taken their tolls and there were casualties. We started with 550-plus as freshmen and are down to around 200 as seniors. But with all the changes, one stands out the most. No, it is not the Culminating Exhibition. It is the scandalous gas prices. When we were freshmen, the gas prices reached a low 90 cents a gallon!!! But of course, we were freshmen and not driving yet. But now that we are seniors, we have to drive almost everywhere. We drive to work, to school, to hang out with our friends and even to EHS activities. Then we have to drive back! Now that we are driving so much, the gas prices are $1.50 a gallon. I say it is a conspiracy. First the scholarly paper, then the CE project and finally the gas prices. Enough is enough, people. However, I do see a bright future for our class. I know that at least a few of us will come back to Johnson High and teach. But many of us will become successful businessmen and women, making the huge fortunes. We'll most likely have a few congressmen and possibly another great senator. I was not born a Seagull like most of you were. I was at first a Bulldog, then a Scottie. I thought I was going to be a Kamiakin Brave but I came to Johnson High to become a Seagull.

Why is this choice appropriate? In this particular situation I would have to say that the token ring protocol should be used for its banks and businesses and part of my reasoning is because it has banks and business that are not all located in the same building or so it seems.In Token Ring LAN’s each station is connected to a wiring concentrator called a multistation access unit using UTP or STP. Some topologies for this are a ring or star with the ring topology being the more logical choice. The access method used on a Token Ring is called token which is a special data packet that is generated by the first computer that comes online in a token ring network, this token is passed from one station to another around the ring.A network device only communicates over the network when it has the tok en. †¢XYZ Technology Consultants has offices on the second, third, and fourth floors of the office building it occupies. What first brought me to this conclusion was due of the company being located in one building on various floors.Ethernet is one of the most popular and widely used LAN technologies because of its speed, reliability, the cost, and lastly its ease of installation. Ethernet networks can be configured in either a star topology using UTP connected to a hub or a bus topology using a coaxial cable acting as a backbone. When a computer wants to send data over the network, it will listen to see if there is any traffic on the network, if it is clear, it will then broadcast the data through the network.

The â€Å"Truth† Every thought that ever entered our mind is a consequence of our struggle to reach out for the truth. Since our early age we have been thought to believe that there has to be right and wrong and we continuously searched for the â€Å"correct† answer. Unlike school’s multiple choice tests, life thought us that there is more than one correct answer. At one point we learned that some questions don’t have answers at all, or they are way too complex for our mind to understand them. Yet we never stopped struggling to reach out for the ultimate truth. In order for us to become closer to it, we classified the â€Å"truth† in many ways. Some of the ways to approach the â€Å"truth† are through math and science, art or our personal beliefs†¦show more content†¦All of our beliefs and thoughts are about the outside world and we would not have any of them if we didn’t â€Å"use our eyes†. Our â€Å"eyes† help us create and change wh at we believe is true. If we try to define the â€Å"truth† from a different perspective as an ultimate objectivity, or universality that holds for everyone, then our opinions or what we have â€Å"inside† could never be the â€Å"truth† since one person’s thoughts will never be the same as anyone else’s. The problem rises when people define the â€Å"truth† as an objective and that they see, know or understand it while everybody else is wrong. This is a great fallacy because what is objective to one person, for the uniqness of individuals, becomes subjective for a group of people. Therefore, no one can be either right or wrong. However, if one chooses to see the truth as an ultimate objectivity, then he must understand that his beliefs on what is â€Å"truth† are as wrong or as far from the â€Å"universal truth† as anyone else’s. There are two ways of knowing: searching for the â€Å"truth† within yourself, and searching the outside world to gain factual sort of information. They art both equally important. The only difference is that those two ways should be used to solve different problems.
